Daxueshan, namely great snow mountain in Chinese, is a majestic mountain straddling the border between Miaoli County and Taichung City, rising to an elevation of 3,530 meters. It is recognized as one of Taiwan’s Top 100 Peaks.
Beyond the single peak, Daxueshan also refers to a cluster of mountains that dominate the western ridge extending from Xueshan (Snow Mountain), with an average elevation of around 2,000 meters. Among mountaineers, this ridge is commonly known as the Western Ridge of Xueshan.
This ridge unfolds like a musical score, with peaks such as Daxueshan forming the notes. As the wind stirs the treetops and cloud waterfalls spill down the slopes, the forest comes alive with the sounds of insects, birds, and wild animals. These natural melodies intertwine with the occasional rumble of trucks navigating mountain roads, the clanking of steel cables hauling fallen logs, and the deep roar of chainsaws cutting through timber. Together, Daxueshan’s natural beauty and human activity create a symphony of their own.
The Sounds of Mountains, held in the former repair workshop of the Tashushan Forestry Company, invites visitors to immerse themselves in this harmonious interplay between the mountain’s natural rhythms and the legacy of forestry.
