İGAM was established in 2013 as an independent, non-profit association by a group of academics, researchers, journalists, and humanitarian aid workers, with the aim of filling the gap created by the absence of an independent research center working on asylum and migration issues in Türkiye.
The aim of İGAM is to contribute to the development of international refugee law and principles worldwide and to promote their effective implementation in Türkiye. İGAM's core activities include conducting academic research on the subject, supporting existing academic studies, creating databases, raising public awareness, organizing trainings, and building networks.
