Raised in a small village within Wall Maria, Zoro was a lost descendant of the Ackerman Clan. His father and mother, who were both scouts, perished when he was a young child, taking the secret of his heritage with them to the grave and entrusting him to a local dojo. There he learned the art of the sword.

Honing his skills with his only childhood friend, they both dreamed of becoming legends in the Survey Corps. Promising each other to one day join the scouts and explore the land outside of Wall Maria until they were known throughout all three Walls.

It was while they were traveling to begin their military training, having reached the age of 14 and being allowed to leave their village, that they stopped in Shiganshina District. He’d never known fear like that day. The sight of a titan taller than Wall Maria looming over them and the chaos that ensued. It was during those terrifying hours, as titans poured into the district that Kuina was killed. Eaten before he was able to reach her, having gone out that morning to a local sword shop.

All that remained of his best friend was her sword….the Wado Ichimonji.

The loss of Kuina and the subsequent hours spent fleeing for his life with his Sensei was what awoke his Ackerman powers. By the time they reached refuge, he’d been covered in dust, blood, and gore. In his rage, he’d taken down a smaller titan. Carving through the back of its neck, the attack had broken his duel katanas even as the titan fell.

He was recruited on the spot.

Quickly moving up through the ranks until he was serving under Erwin Smith. His prowess soon came to be compared to Captain Levi. Story of the younger scout spread through the ranks and civilians alike until the name Roronoa Zoro was known by many. His reputation as the Three-Bladed Demon rose among those who followed his career. For even in battle he carried, strapped to his back, and sometimes wielded between his teeth, the Wado Ichimonji.

That was until Eren Yeager joined the Survey Corps. After the death of Levi’s previous team, he was placed on the newly formed Team Levi at the request of the military council to ensure that between the two lethal warriors, Eren would be contained until they were sure he was not a threat.
