OVERALL PROGRESS

  1.  Key Information

  2. Get Started

  3. Installing boot9strap (MSET9 CLI)

  4. Finalizing Setup

Get Started

Before starting this guide, we will first check if custom firmware is already installed as well as the current system version of your console.

PLEASE NOTE: For the scope of this project, this page will lack functionality for determining which method you need to use to follow the rest of the guide. It will instead assume that you are attempting to install custom firmware on an Old 3DS XL/LL and will be modified to ensure you are on System Version 11.17.0-50[Region Character] (the most recent system version).

It will also make the assumption that you are using a computer with Windows, macOS, or Linux installed, as the methods for doing several important things are different across different device types.

Section I - CFW Check

  1.  Power off your console

  2. Hold the Select button

  3. Power on your console while still holding the Select button

  4. If you do not see a custom menu (that is, your console just boots to the usual HOME Menu), you may proceed to Section II

  • If you see the Luma3DS configuration screen or any other custom menu (e.g. GodMode9, Decrypt9WIP), STOP - you already have custom firmware! Continue from here.

Section II - System Version Check

  1. Launch System Settings on your console

  2. Your system version will be displayed on the bottom right of the top screen (e.g. Ver. 11.17.0-50U)

If your system version is Ver. 11.17.0-50U, continue to Installing boot9strap (MSET9 CLI).

If your system version is NOT Ver. 11.17.0-50U, update your console inside of System Settings so that your system version becomes Ver. 11.17.0.-50U and proceed to Installing boot9strap (MSET9 CLI).
