We live in a raised ranch style home and no plans exists that we can find, so using Home Designer Architectural 2017 I made this attached plan, but stairs are a problem, back door and ceiling heights do not work either.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Broderbund Software, Inc. became one of the leading producers and distributors of home computer video games and electronic software. In 1986, it was the 9th-largest United States computer software company, and by 1997, the company had annual revenues of $190 million.

Broderbund's popularity stemmed from its wide range of products, as well as the fact that it released games for nearly every home computer system in America. The company also licensed certain series overseas, allowing its games to appear on systems such as the British ZX Spectrum and Japanese MSX.

The best-known brands in consumer software for over 30 years. Whether you are looking to make greeting cards at home, learn to type, do a newsletter, create a scrapbook, start a business, or get clip art, we have the right software title for you. Our titles can make things easier and help you to improve your life.

What: Architectural lesson in a box. Details: If you can picture your dream house in your mind's eye but have yet to commit checkbook to action, this three-disc collection might be the thing to get you started. The massive 3D Home Architect Deluxe 4.0 program at its core offers formidable tools for remodeling, redecorating and adding on to homes. You can inspect zillions of paint samples, rearrange furniture or drag walls around on the screen. (Before getting started, install Disc 3's database of 1,500 house plans so you won't have to draw your home's layout from scratch.) All the tools may seem overwhelming at first, but a few clicks around the tool bar and some reading of the 300-page user's guide make the software easier to master. It helps if you're familiar with graphic-design applications and if you have some basic knowledge about building. One result: Forty minutes after installing the program, my husband -- who, to be fair, has his own acquaintance with drywall -- had come up with a plan to remodel and redecorate our master bathroom. This bundle also comes with the Black & Decker Everyday Home Repairs application, a helpful guide for fixing a leaky faucet or roof, plus the equally useful, approachable 3D Home Landscape Designer 4.0, which includes a database of 7,500 plants, trees and shrubs, as well as advice on how and where to plant them. Bottom line: Can improve the home-improvement experience.

3D Home Design Suite opens new dimensions in home improvement. NeoDVD Plus delivers -- but only with the right hardware. AbiWord: A first draft of a word processor. Warlords: Battlecry II: Two genres that go even better together.

If you're looking to build your dream house -- or planning to add on or remodel -- software that helps you design the project on your PC may sound like a fun way to streamline the process. But using home-design software is more like getting seriously involved with a hobby. Figure a day to rough out the design of the house with the software, and add in several days to master the tools and techniques needed for the finishing touches. The process requires concentrated learning, not multitasking.

If you're a frustrated architect, this may be a hobby you'll enjoy, and you'll be able to design your perfect home in detail. Otherwise, using the software will just be work -- although the fruits of your labors will at least help clarify your thinking and lay out some possibilities.

The range in home software is as wide as the range in price -- from $20 to more than $250. Some programs let you design in three dimensions after you've built the basic structure in two dimensions. Many come with landscaping software and budget-estimating features, as well as a tool to paste digital images into your designs.

For more exacting plans, you'll need a more sophisticated -- and expensive -- program. The devil is in the details, and the ability to control those details makes Punch Software's popular lineup stand out. It includes Professional Home Design Platinum Version 8 and Home Design Architectural Series 4000 (www.punchsoftware.com; $100 and $250, respectively). These include a variety of specifically focused design tools, such as a cabinet wizard for adjusting the wood color, size and angle of cabinetry, and a topography designer for adding precise slopes to your home lot. A free demonstration of Punch's Professional Home Design Platinum is available on the company's Web site. A more detailed "site planner" included in the Architectural Series lets you re-create the exact dimensions of your lot.

For software with a good range of design tools that also comes with decorating and design advice, try the Better Homes and Gardens line of home-design software by Chief Architect. This includes Home Designer Suite 6.0 and Home Designer Deluxe (www.homedesignersoftware.com; $100 and $150, respectively). You'll find a feature comparison on the Web site. These programs have meaty tips sections with decorating advice from Better Homes and Gardens editors. For example, if you want to stick with a country-cottage style, they tell you how. You'll be able to access guidelines, such as the suggested widths of doorways and hallways. Deluxe has a photo gallery for inspiration.

Every booking you make at a Plus Program hotel will be packed with privileges that pay for themselves in as little as one stay. Best of all, you can book as many Plus stays as you want, for whomever you want. ff782bc1db
