Muhyadheen Mala: A Poetic Tribute to the Reviver of the Faith
Muhyadheen Mala is a Malayalam poem that praises the life and teachings of Sheikh Muhyadheen Abdul Khadir Al Gilani, a prominent Sufi saint and scholar who lived in the 12th century CE. The poem was composed by Qadi Muhammad of Kozhikode, a city in the southern Indian state of Kerala, four centuries ago. The poem is considered to be one of the oldest and most popular works of Arabic-Malayalam literature, a unique genre that blends Arabic and Malayalam languages and cultures.
The poem consists of 141 verses that describe the various miracles and virtues of Sheikh Al Gilani, who is also known as Muhiyuddin (the reviver of the faith), Ghausul Azam (the supreme helper), and Sultanul Awliya (the king of the saints). The poem also invokes his intercession and protection for the poet and his community. The poem is recited with devotion and reverence by Sufi Muslims, especially in Kerala, who believe that it can cure diseases, purify hearts, and grant blessings.
