It is important that the centrifugal pump is able to draw volume from the liver effectively. Small adjustments to the cannula position and liver orientation may improve the drainage into the IVC cannula.
Frequently negative IVC pressure is indicative of IVC collapse. Follow steps described above and continue to observe IVC pressure.
If reservoir volume has stabilised and drainage is effective, add more volume (no more than 300ml) to replace volume contained within liver. We recommend adding additional colloid unless you have reason to believe the haemoglobin is low.
