We started our Halloween morning by reading Little Witch's Big Night by Deborah Hautzig. We retold the story to a partner and they also turned-and-talked with a partner to practice making text-to-self connections by sharing what each child thought the best part of halloween is. Next, students cut and glued the events of the story in order. The skill of sequencing is another way to practice retelling a story. Then students glued their sequenced story events to little witch.
We even found some time for special Halloween coloring between activities!
Students practiced their inference skills by listening to costume clue cards and recording on their sheet which costume was described from the clues. Next, students drew a costume and wrote 3 clues for their classmates to guess the costume.
