Hello Scouts

As a Scout, you are given more responsibility at meetings and camps than in Cub Scouts.  You belong to a group called a "Scout Troop".  The Troop gets to do lots of exciting things and go on many camps throughout the year.  You can earn cool badges.  At meetings you learn new skills, play games, go on hikes, tell jokes, tour special places and do other great activities.

Check out the badges you can earn on the PROGRAMS - DOCUMENTS page.  You can also earn the Top Section Award in your section (Chief Scout's Award - check with your section Scouters for details on this award).

The following provides you with some important things to remember.

MEETINGS:  Be sure to check the CALENDAR OF EVENTS on the "Home" page for the most up-to-date schedule information for all your meetings and events.  Regular meetings are generally held each week, except after weekend camps (there is generally no regular meeting following a camp). Always remember to wear your uniform (and bring your coat to each meeting as we often go outside for part or all of the meeting).

CODE OF CONDUCT:  As part of the 21st Capilano Groups' focus on "Service to the Community and Scouting" and "Respectfulness to Everyone and the Environment", as well as your increased responsibilities and freedoms, each Scouts is expected to follow the "Troops' Code of Conduct" which can be found on the PROGRAMS - DOCUMENTS page..  

CAMPS & SPECIAL EVENTS:  When you go on camps or special events, be sure to pack all the items on the "Packing List".   You will also need to bring your camp/event fee (all Scout camp fees are a flat rate of $25 except for Jamborees and major expeditions) or you can prepay the fee by going to MEMBERS - PAYMENTS. 

When you go on outings where meals are needed, you will team up with a patrol to plan and prepare your meals.  For example, typically at camps there are three meals required.  Usually, one Scout is responsible for being the Grubmaster who purchases the food, prepares items and brings the food to camp. Other patrol members help prepare and cook the  meals & clean-up after the meal).  Remember, everyone is responsible to clean their own personal dishes after every meal.

At camps, everyone needs to help out to set up the camp and to take everything down at the end of the camp (remember "leave no trace").  Uniforms are also worn on the way to camps and when travelling back home (they do not need to be worn at the camp).

BADGES:  Some badges are earned during meetings but you can easily earn badges on your own.  To access your badge records, just sign into your Scouts Tracker Account By Clicking Here.  When you have earned a badge, let your leader know.  Many Scouts also earn their "Chief Scout" award.  This is a high level award that you can earn with some extra effort on your own.  A Chief Scout award will also give you additional credits for your High School curriculum.  Ask your leader for further details.

LEADERSHIP:  In Scouts, we form Patrols which are groups of five or more Scouts.  You can work your way up to becoming a Patrol Leader (PL) or Assistant Patrol Leader (APL).  In addition, senior Scouts may be given the opportunity to become the Troop Leader (TL) or Assistant Troop Leader (ATL). If you are a TL, ATL, PL, APL Scout you will be given even more responsibility and you often get to do special things at meetings and events, as well as go on some outings apart from the rest of the Scouts.  Remember that you need to set a good example and help teach the Scouts.

TROOP LEADERSHIP TEAM:  TLs, ATLs, PLs, APLs and other 3rd & 4th year members are also part of a group called the "Troop Leadership Team".  This special group makes important decisions on camps, special events, meeting plans, and on any particular issues that might arise in the Scout Group.  The Troop Leadership Team generally meets once a month (usually on the regular meeting day following a weekend camp).

JAMBOREES:  Every few years Scouts will be able to participate in a jamboree, either locally, nationally, in the United States or somewhere in the world.  As jamborees are scheduled, Scouts will be updated by their Scouters.
