How will firecraft be judged?
No matches, no lighters = so only a ferro rod, flint and steel, bow/drill, fire piston, or fire plough type fire starters can be used. More points will be awarded for using a more difficult fire starting tool. But this may increase the length of time it takes you to start the fire. The patrol will be given kindling to start their fires. You may stack wood to the first string. You will light your fire and burn the second string. Then your time will stop.
How do we earn additional points?
Each station is a city, based on the Klondike Gold Rush, Yukon Quest Race and Iditarod Race. Each station, or city, has a mayor. The mayor is the judge. The mayor has the authority to give, or take away, points at their discretion. You can do things like, build a larger shelter to earn more points. But will it cost you in time? Everything is a gamble during a goldrush.
Can AOLs attend?
We highly encourage all Scoutmasters to reach out to their associated Cub Master and invite the AOLs to this event. This will be a great opportunity for the AOLs to participate in a Scouts BSA event and meet the Troop. AOLs will require two-deep leadership at all times.
