This primary election to determine who will be on the Nov. ballot. The following candidate information for Nicollet County Sheriff and Nicollet County Commissioner is drawn from a questionnaire and a Candidate Meet and Greet (7/9/22). All candidates were invited to respond and attend.

Nicollet County Sheriff
District: North Mankato, St. Peter, Nicollet, Courtland, Norseland, etac.
Duties:
responsible for law enforcement on a county level, ensuring that all local, state, and federal laws are followed
manage deputies a-a uniformed officers who patrol the community, investigate complaints, respond to emergencies, monitor traffic, arrest suspects, conduct investigations, execute warrants, etc.
responsible for filling out paperwork on warrants and complaints, reviewing patrol logs, overseeing hiring and training of deputies, managing the county jail, and writing and distributing the budget
may be responsible for, or participate in, public forums on policing and community outreach programs.

District 1: St. Peter north of Broadway and Gustavus; Traverse, Lake Prairie, New Sweden Townships
Duties:
work with other County Commissioners to oversee the county’s management and administration, represent county interests at the state and federal level, participate in long-range planning, and manage county budget
serve on advisory boards or commissions that provide county services, including: libraries, county jail, local public health boards, day care centers, nursing homes, hospitals, etc.
develop and adopt county laws on infrastructure such as public health, parks, solid waste management, roads and highways, zoning and land use
authorize personnel rules that affect county employee recruitment, classification, compensation, and termination
