Tax Assistance by Montgomery County AARP Tax-Aide is finished for 2022

AmeriCorps Seniors /AARP Foundation Montgomery County Tax-Aide

The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program is the nation's largest free, volunteer-run tax preparation service. Volunteers in this program prepare taxes for low and moderate income taxpayers, with special attention to seniors. The national program helps over 2.6 million taxpayers every year, with over 35,000 volunteers at over 5,000 sites. Each year we prepare nearly 5,000 federal and state (Maryland) returns.


Where can I obtain free tax assistance after April 18, 2022?

Although Montgomery County Tax-Aide has shut down for the season, there are other resources available that may be able to assist you in receiving free tax help. The programs listed below, according to their phone recordings, will be reopening later this year.

· VITA: Call 240-777-1123 in mid-May to make an appointment for filing 2018, 2019, 2020, or 2021 returns or amended returns for these years. Montgomery County residents only; household income limit is $58,000 per year.

· Community Taxaide: Call 202-830-1480 or send an email to appointments@communitytaxaide.org to be placed on a list to be contacted for an appointment in May or June. Can do MD, DC, and VA returns; household income limit is $58,000 per year.
