The Prison Education Network (PEN) is pleased to present The First Annual BC/Yukon Prison Education Conference which is happening virtually October 6th and 7th 2021. The Conference planning committee includes members from several post-secondary institutions who will co-host the event. These include Capilano University, Yukon University, Douglas College, University of Victoria, University of the Fraser Valley, and University of British Columbia.
A primary goal of the conference is to bring together post-secondary and community-based prison education initiatives across BC and Yukon and to generate a network inventory of these efforts. The conference aims to encourage dialogue around pathways to education, access and lived experience in education within prison and post-prison settings. The conference will include speakers with lived incarceration experience, elders and others involved in community-based and university-based prison education programs. University initiatives will be presented by faculty and others from Thompson Rivers University, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Simon Fraser University, Nicola Valley Institute of Technology, and Vancouver Island University. Keynote speakers include Walls to Bridges, Patrick Keating and Dr. Steven Duguid.
All sessions will take place over Zoom, and will not be recorded. Attendance is free, but pre-registration is required for all participants. Please follow the link to register: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/first-annual-bcyukon-prison-education-conference-2021-tickets-174553312657
