- Instructors and coaches need to ensure that cadets are not placed on orienteering courses that are above their individual capabilities to successfully complete within the time limits. This decision should be based on the cadet's level of orienteering training, physical and mental abilities, maturity and previous orienteering experiences. Carefully consider course assignments and understanding the difficulty levels of the courses.
- If a cadet is in need of assistance while on the course due to significant injury or being unrecoverably list, emergency procedures are communicated and should be followed by the cadet.
- Safety is paramount! Competitors must be aware of the hazards involved in orienteering and be especially careful to negotiate the most difficult terrain within their abilities.
