NHL Draft Info:
TV: NBC Sports Network (day 1), Sportsnet, NHL Network (day 2)
Can't watch on TV or online? Follow along on this page during the draft as I will be entering in the picks live as they happen. Get real-time results on how your team is doing and watch what players are reached for or fall down the board. When the draft is over, check out the Draft Results Analysis to see how your team performed compared to the rankings. With that said, I will answer a few potential questions below about the method for compiling this sheet.
FAQ:
Q: Why did you include a bunch of random bloggers with equal weight as major news outlets?
A: While major news outlets may have inside sources, it has not been proven that they are superior to bloggers or hobbyists in terms of ranking draft-eligible talent. This is actually part of the goal of this project long-term. I began this project with the 2016 Draft and intend to continue on into the future. As the results from the 2016 Draft become apparent, we can go back and compare results from the rankings and determine who is actually accurate in their rankings. Perhaps the data will eventually prove me wrong but for now I will lean on the side of having a large breadth of data rather than exclude people who put in the work because "they aren't good enough."
Q: Why did you exclude a certain ranking that I know of?
A: If I excluded it, its either because its behind a paywall that was outside my hobbyist budget or its because I couldn't find it. Please comment on my reddit post with a link and I will add it.
Q: How can you compare Top-31 rankings with Top-250 and some that rank goalies and others that don't?
A: I understand the different ranking types can affect the data, which is why you see a lot of later-ranked guys with higher rankings than you might expect (since the data is missing). Honestly I prefer that the data just speak for itself, and that I should not try to interpolate or compensate for this.
Thanks for viewing! This is a product of ~3 months of work to scour the web for data and enter it manually (for the most part, thanks to various sources spelling players names differently), compiling information on over 600 players.
Paywalled ranking sources have been hidden out of respect.
