FROM THE WEST

The fall Grand Canyon Rail Road excursion raffle is a go. We should have the tickets to distribute to the members the first Tuesday in April. We are only going to raffle off three hundred tickets, with the drawing date set for September 10, 2019 or before if all three hundred tickets are sold before then. This is a very good package as it includes two nights stay in Williams, four meals at the hotel in Williams, the train ride to the Grand Canyon, and a guided tour of the Canyon after arriving there.

Transportation to and from the hotel to the train is included. We are including fifty dollars spending money in addition to the tickets. This package should appeal to all ages and to majority of the population in Payson and the surrounding area. Please pick up your tickets and flyers to make this a worthy event.

We shall again look at the science of Geometry. Not only was Geometry one of the required subjects in high school if you were planning of attending college and if pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in college Geometry was a required courses. For engineering students at the time, we were required to take two semesters of mechanical drawing. Mechanical drawing relies heavily on Geometry especially where the powers and properties of magnitude are essential where length, breath and thickness are concerned. I often questioned why we had to take mechanical drawing for electrical engineering, but the principal of being able to construct on paper either with a pencil or by computer aided design an object in two dimensional space and to see the various views of that object from different perspectives before seeing the whole which these drawings represented. This principle of being able to picture a solid from two dimensional drawings helps train our minds to see what is there, not only in graphic form but other problems as well.
