2017年第二屆台灣泰國研究國際研討會

2017 International Conference of Taiwan's Thailand Studies

Theme of the Conference

Seven Decades of Taiwan-Thailand Communion:

A New Era of Plurality and Communication

Call for Papers

Following the first International Conference of Taiwan's Thailand Studies held last November, both Taiwan and Thailand have experienced transformation. In Thailand, the new monarch's ascending the throne breaks new ground for the country. In Taiwan, after nearly one year's promotion of the New South Bound Policy, have the political elites and the public become more open-minded toward Southeast Asia.

For so long, the knowledge of Taiwan's public on the Taiwan-Thailand relations is limited to Taiwanese entrepreneurs. Most of the people only know that Thailand has the second numbers of Taiwanese entrepreneurs, but they ignore that there're also many overseas Taiwanese engaging in other careers. According to the information of embassies, Thailand is Taiwanese's premier choice for emigration with about 130 thousand of overseas Taiwanese living in Thailand.

Many government agencies, NGOs, companies and academies have visited the Thai-Taiwan Business Association since the promotion of the New South Bound Policy, but majority did not realize that the Association was established by Thai-Taiwan Association.

In 1947, a group of Taiwanese entrepreneurs organized the Thai-Taiwan Association in order for the cohesion among the compatriots, giving the overseas Taiwanese a second home in Thailand. It gradually grew into the biggest overseas Taiwanese Association in the world.

2017 is the seventh anniversary of the establishment of Thai-Taiwan Association. To celebrate the relationship between Taiwan and Thailand, the Conference this year will focus on “Knowledge and Information Exchange among Thai-Tai”.
