About the Meeting

The 2016 CALIPSO/CloudSat meeting was held in Newport News, Virginia, Tuesday morning, 1 March, through end of day Thursday, 3 March 2016) and consisted of plenary and poster sessions over a period of 3 days. Sessions were organized around scientific and programmatic themes.

We solicited science investigation reports from science team members and others. Submitted abstracts were used to select oral and poster presentations. We were particularly interested in highlighting research results that underscore the value of multi-year datasets of active radar and lidar datasets, both alone and in combination with passive measurements. Also, we encouraged the oral/poster presentations to articulate what are the remaining gaps and what are the future observational needs.

• Aerosol sources, pollution, chemistry, and transport
• Clouds, Radiation, and Dynamics
• Radiation Budget
• Aerosol-Cloud-Precipitation Interactions, Cloud Processes
• Precipitation/Snowfall
• Model Assessments, Model Development and Assimilation
• Ocean/Altimetry Studies

In addition, reports on algorithm development, data production, and data validation were presented from key project and science team members. An overview of flight hardware status and performance, lifetime projections was also discussed.

All ROSES-funded science team members were expected to submit an abstract.
