This is short page about a visit to the VEOLIA plant in Old Kent Road.
It is not really much to do with the Park but I include it here briefly because I was invited as a member of the Friends.
The visit was a "rubber-neck" one due to time constrains but instructive non-the-less.
Basically the huge plant sorts out and re-packages the household waste and ship it out to other contractors for further processing.
It is a good feat of engineering and an impressive facility.
Here few seconds sample of what's like:
Of particular interest to us is the offer that our guide (Education and Outreach Officer for Southwark Ian McGeough ) was explaining in the talk and Q&A we had at the end of the tour. Apparently for community based groups like ours it is possible to receive a Free composter (even if we have to take it away ourself).I could not find the reference in the VEOLIA Southwark Website but no doubt is an offer we should consider. It would be convenient on the Wild Life area site for instance and if it is not stolen (!!) it could add to the site appearing looked after.Everything can help.
