This Wednesday we went down for a check up of the Wild life Area and a little clean-up. It was raining and unseasonally cold but we did not mind as the area needed as much as water as possible after quite a dry winter.
As it turned out there were no major problems, a little rubbish but less than expected.
It is to be seen if the work we have done this winter will results in the hoped for improvements.
The cutting down of some of the Buddleia bush should result in more light reaching the floor and a encouraging a better variety of under-store vegetation growth. Also this should decrease the attraction for den building.
The back of the earth covered wattled fence should receive more attention though... If this summer works in the park could produce some more soil it could be well used here.
Peter, the "abominable wildman" of Surrey Square Park was lurking about (actually doing most of the work), giving the area that extra touch of otherworldliness.
In spite of the beating rain we had still we had time to admire some spring bluebells (Hyacinthoides non-scripta)
and check on the growth of the prised oak sapling.
Once again we left with good feeling in our hearts (and some rubbish).
