A visit and some cleaning for the Wild life Area in a splendid July day.
The weather is warm and the place is positively thriving (but spot Daniel "bush-hat" in the middle of our pint size wilderness).
The earth banks are slowly being colonised by a succession of plant, ruderals, specialised into first settling and growing rapidly. They will be eventually replaced by more permanent and shrubs and eventually trees.
At the moment the existing trees and bushes produce a splendid canopy. the real dynamo for the area biodiversity.
The works done recently on the playground have cause some disruption but the site is already on the mend:
As it has been the area diversity of plants and micro habitats allow the vegetation to quickly recover from disruptions without much loss in biomass, in a surprising short time.
here for instance is the previous years side of the kick-about already re-greened and verdant. Like if nothing had happened there. Nobody would think that all that edge was actually cut down.Alison surrounded by Spear Thrisle (Cirsium vulgare), Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) and Mugworth (Artemisia vulgaris) is busy taking photos.
We use the occasion to check on the elder tree that recently has shown some sign of illness but we are satisfied that it is non to serious.
All in all the site is all right. Both edges on the side have now potential to become an introduction to the WLA but some worries still remain for the last part of the wattle-like hedge that still have not been covered by earth.
All that remains is to collect the rubbish and go satisfied we done a little good.
