These works were the result of a lucky bid from the Kinglake Tenants & Residents Association for the renewal of the playground next to Leysdown and Ifield Houses.
These works did not affect the Surrey Square Park that much but because of the removal and rebuilding of the east side fence in the Wild Life Area they had some impact there.
I tried to influence, through Rupert (the consultant appointed to supervise the works and the contractor) to have the fence raised to the same level of the previous works in the Kick-about field on the west side, but in this case I could not prevail. I was however able to provide some advice (as in the other works) on what to cut and how to, when the fence was eventually erected.
On the other hand the original designed had moved the fence up to Albridge Street but eventually for treason not altogether clear (probably overspending) the Albridge Street side was only cleared up, replanted (with unsuitable plants that eventually all died) a new fancy low fencing was put in place of the old worn-out one but no major modification or extension of the playground area was actually implemented.
Interestingly this area, abutting the Wild Life Area (see the pdf attached ) supposed to be part of the "smaller children" playground is rarely used for ball games or indeed anything (possibly because of the possibility to loose the ball in the mostly impenetrable (-one wished it was-) WLA or maybe because of the proximity of other better facilities at a short distance away. this is the place were periodically every ten years of so, someone from the local Tenants & Residents Association would like to be used for building a Community Hall of sort.
