SoundTrack Pro was designed to work seamlessly with other Apple products, such as Final Cut Pro, GarageBand, iTunes, and Logic Pro. It allowed users to edit audio in a sample-accurate, non-destructive way, with support for multitrack editing, mixing, mastering, and processing. It also featured advanced tools for noise reduction, time stretching, pitch shifting, and spectral editing.
The latest version of SoundTrack Pro was 3.0.1, which was released in July 2009. It addressed general compatibility issues, improved overall stability, and fixed a number of minor issues. Some of the new features in version 3 included:
Support for 64-bit processing and larger memory addressing.
Improved performance and responsiveness.
Enhanced compatibility with Final Cut Pro 7 and Logic Pro 9.
New multitrack editing tools, such as ripple delete, replace edit, and lift and stamp.
New audio effects, such as guitar amp modeling, vocal transformer, and match EQ.
New surround sound mixing and monitoring options.
New file format support, such as FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, and Broadcast Wave.
SoundTrack Pro was compatible with Mac computers with an Intel processor, running Mac OS X 10.5.6 or later. It required at least 1GB of RAM (2GB or more recommended), an ATI or NVIDIA graphics processor, a DVD drive for installation, and 4GB of disk space for the application and content.
SoundTrack Pro was discontinued in June 2011, when Apple released Final Cut Pro X, which included a new audio editing engine called Final Cut Pro Audio. Users who still wanted to use SoundTrack Pro could download it from the Apple website or purchase it as part of the Logic Studio bundle. However, Apple did not provide any further updates or support for SoundTrack Pro after its discontinuation.
SoundTrack Pro was a powerful and versatile audio editing application that offered a lot of features and functionality for music composers and sound designers. It was well integrated with other Apple products and had a user-friendly interface. However, it was also prone to some stability issues and compatibility problems with newer operating systems and hardware. It was eventually replaced by Final Cut Pro Audio, which aimed to provide a more streamlined and modern audio editing experience.
