On each start up, Waterfox does a DNSquery for aus.waterfox.net. This is Waterfox's automatic update service, which you can't totally disable. At most, you can tell Waterfox not to automatically install updates. but it will still check for updates anyway.
Other than the few CDN connections - of which some are tied to connection to waterfox.net and mozilla.org - Waterfox doesn't seem to phone home a lot. This is a good thing, especially when you compare it other browsers that constantly phone home.
About the whisker menu when I click on the icon itself nothing happens. Also I have in my /home/[username]/ directory a .waterfox directory with another directory inside of it called: 'mpduf53e.default' and a file called: 'profiles.ini'.
The update after which waterfox doesn't work is this one (form /var/log/paman.log):
At this point I am using palemoon but am quite tired of switching browsers and also I have gotten pretty used to waterfox because of the ammount of time I have used it. So is there something wrong with waterfox itself or I just made a careless update and all is my fault (won't be surprised) and I should just rebuild the package and carry on with my life?
Cheers!
jasonwryan, I am sorry but this still confuses me if I post the whole log file which begins with pacstrap /mnt base base-devel wouldn't you flame about posting this outrageously large file? What I am tryiing to say is that i have posted the whole update I ran on the date before which waterfox was wrking properly..
Cheers!
All you have to do if you want to try my waterfox docker image is copy and paste the above into a file called Dockerfile.
Then assuming you have docker installed, you do (caution this will lead to about 1.4Gb of downloads)
I was using waterfox current, and an update turned into a mess since
the update installed G3.0.1 which doesn't work properly (on a couple
of pups and fatdog). I now use the classic version which works well
on fossa64 and bio64 (latest versions) but not on fatdog 811.
For the quest 'A Wounded Waterfox', talk to the bear Park Ranger Viktar (he's holding a shovel and pretty stressed out). Go through his speech prompts until he tells you about the waterfoxes and their cave (not more than a hundred paces from him). There is no direct trail there from the main path but walking behind him, you will find a dirt path quickly and that will bring you to the cave. If you already have found Fooxitar Eggs, you'll be able to finish the quest. If not, keep exploring the woods until you do, then return to the cave. You will see the injured Waterfox to the left, which you cannot interact with, and the trap is to the right. You can interact with the trap, leaving an egg inside for bait. Once you've baited the trap, back up and wait for the waterfox to enter it. Viktar will come to the cave and you can go through several speech prompts with him and after this, he will not have more speech prompts for you until after approaching Nava for the first time. Once you approach Nava, you can return to Viktar and ask him for a letter of recommendation.
