What actually happened?: In 1942 FDR banned the production of these items:
Cars
Vacuum cleaners
Refrigerators
New Homes
FDR required that ration stamps be given to citizens which allowed them to buy only a limited supply of these items
Toilet Paper
Food (in this regard, Roosevelt encouraged citizens to grow "victory gardens," providing food for one's own family)
Gasoline
Regarding copper pennies (copper was an important element for making weapons), the mint was directed to make pennies out of steel and zinc in 1943.
Regarding baseball, FDR wrote this letter to the commissioner of MLB; while at the same time, women created a league of their own
