What actually happened?: President Truman did not want to fire the first shot in World War III, but he also didn't want to abandon the residents of West Berlin. He decided to provide the residents with everything they needed to survive by dropping supplied from Airplanes for the following year. If there would be war, the Soviets would have to fire the first shot. After eleven months, the Soviets reopened the Autobahn.
