Plot summary
Andrea, a high school student, becomes obsessed with Giulia, an older woman he sees outside his classroom window. Giulia is the fiancée of Gianni, a leftist radical who is imprisoned and on trial for political crimes. Andrea and Giulia meet and begin a sexual relationship, meeting in her apartment or in public places. Their affair is discovered by Gianni's mother, who confronts Andrea's father, a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who has treated Giulia in the past. Andrea's father finds himself attracted to Giulia as well, and suspects that she is mentally unstable. As the intensity of their passion grows, Andrea and Giulia face the consequences of their actions and the reactions of their families and society.
