Bespoke interior design and project management in Harrogate & North Yorkshire. Creating timeless, functional homes that tell your story.
Welcome to Studio Kavel. Founded by Lead Designer Elena Kavel, we believe that a home shouldn't just look beautiful in a photograph—it should handle the messiness of everyday life with grace. Based in the heart of Harrogate, we specialize in blending modern aesthetics with the character of period properties. We move beyond trends to create spaces that feel grounded, personal, and effortlessly elegant.
We are a fully insured practice and a registered member of the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID). With over 10 years of industry experience, we have built strong relationships with trusted local architects, joiners, and artisans. We don't just pick paint colours; we understand spatial planning, lighting architecture, and technical drawings, ensuring your renovation runs smoothly from concept to completion.
From refreshing a single room to managing a full home renovation, we offer flexible design packages.
The complete package. We handle everything from spatial planning and mood boards to sourcing furniture and managing the installation day.
Perfect for remote clients. You send us your measurements and photos; we send you a digital shopping list, floor plan, and styling guide to implement at your own pace.
Planning an extension? We work alongside your architect to plan electrical layouts, lighting schemes, and kitchen configurations before the build begins.
The finishing touches. We source art, rugs, and accessories to pull a room together, giving it that magazine-ready finish.
We design bespoke cabinetry layouts and lighting plans that balance technical practicality with luxury, creating the perfect kitchen workflow or a spa-like bathroom sanctuary.
We visit your home to assess the natural light and architecture, creating a cohesive colour palette that flows seamlessly from room to room.
Hiring a designer is an investment that saves you time and costly mistakes.
We pass on exclusive trade discounts from top furniture and fabric houses (like Soho Home, Neptune, and Farrow & Ball), often offsetting our design fees
Struggling to visualize the end result? We create photorealistic 3D renders so you can see exactly how the light, textures, and furniture will look before you buy.
We don't just shop on the high street. We have a black book of upholsterers, curtain makers, and carpenters to create bespoke pieces unique to your home.
We follow a structured framework to ensure your project stays on brief and on budget.
A 90-minute site visit to discuss your lifestyle, budget, and vision. We assess the natural light and architectural features of the space.
We present mood boards, material samples (fabrics, tiles, woods), and initial floor plans for your approval.
Once approved, we handle the ordering, tracking, and quality control of all items. You don't have to deal with delivery logistics.
The "Reveal Day." Our team arrives to install furniture, hang curtains, and style accessories, transforming your home while you are out.
We are proud of the relationships we build. Here is what our clients say about the process.
“Elena totally understood our style when we didn't even know how to describe it ourselves. Our living room is now my favourite place on earth.”

How do you structure your design fees?
We believe in total transparency. For smaller projects or single rooms, we typically offer a fixed-fee package so you know exactly what the design will cost upfront. For large-scale renovations or project management, we work on a percentage of the overall build cost or an agreed monthly retainer. We will discuss the best option for you during our initial consultation.
Can you incorporate my existing furniture?
Absolutely. We believe a home should tell the story of the people who live there, and that includes your history. If you have a beloved vintage armchair or a family heirloom, we can build the design scheme around it. We are also happy to advise on reupholstery or restoration to give older pieces a new lease on life.
What happens if I don't like the design?
Design is a collaborative process. We spend a lot of time in the "Discovery" phase getting to know your taste so this rarely happens! However, every design package includes two rounds of revisions. If the first concept isn't quite right, we will refine and tweak the layout, colours, or fabrics until you are 100% happy with the vision.
Is it costly to hire an interior designer?
Not at all. While we specialize in luxury finishes, good design is often about spending money smartly rather than just spending a lot. In fact, hiring a designer can often save you money. We help you avoid costly mistakes (like buying a sofa that doesn't fit) and pass on exclusive trade discounts that you wouldn't get on the high street.
Do you manage the tradespeople?
Yes, if you choose our Full Service Design package. We act as the bridge between you and the contractors. We produce the technical drawings they need, conduct site visits to check the quality of work, and resolve any issues that arise on-site, so you don't have to worry about the logistics.
I live abroad. Can we still work together?
Yes. While our full project management service is location-dependent, our E-Design service is available nationwide. We can consult via video call and send you a comprehensive digital design box, including floor plans, shopping lists, and styling guides, for you to implement in your own time
