Hello and Welcome!
Welcome to The 11th Essential. If you are here, chances are you have heard about the 10 essentials for outdoor recreation but now, we must add an 11th – the trash bag.
Every day we can make a difference with the smallest act. Pick up a piece of trash here, a bag of trash there, educate someone on Leave No Trace principles. There are so many great ways to make a positive impact on the places we love to visit.
Let’s all do our part to prevent our wild places from turning into a wasteland. Next time you’re on the trail or whatever outdoor activity you enjoy, pack your 11th Essential and let it help you start conversations with others about the importance of stewardship and protecting our wild places.
Not only is the actual clean-up important, educating and advocating are equally important actions to win the fight in protecting these beautiful places.
By adding a trash bag to our essential items, we deepen the purpose of our adventures. Now, our adventures are one of stewardship. Educating others we come in contact with on our adventures elevates this even higher.
Through every adventure, with every bag, with every person we start a conversation with – we can make a difference and spark change.
Never stop fighting to protect something you love. Every little bit DOES make a difference. Together, WE CAN move mountains (of trash). WE CAN protect the places that our hearts beat for. We can do it each time we #GetOutGrabOne
You can make a difference by also helping us spread the message of the #11thessential – a message of stewardship and protection for our wild and natural places. A simple act of adding a trash bag to your outdoor essentials can help save our wild places.
Our mission is two-fold. First, the actual act of packing your #11thessential and hitting the trail. Secondly, we hope to be able to bridge the gap in outdoor education by supplementing current outdoor recreation education and Leave No Trace education in parks and other outdoor areas where access and funding lack to provide this information to their visitors.
With both actions, we hope to protect our wild and beautiful public lands for generations to come.
