While in a hybrid model of teaching, groups of students were in odd instrumentation. My middle school groups were broken up and narrowed down to only a few per class. No composer has ever really written music for some of the groupings of students that I had. In the interest of the students being able to work on a piece that they can complete in their groups, I composed music with the students in the style of their choosing. Here is an example of one of those compositions. This is called "Funky Fungus." I made sure to keep education at the forefront of the experience. The first bars are a blues scale and lead to some fantastic opportunities to learn jazz and blues fundamentals with middle schoolers.
