Observations and thoughts on what's happening in our backyard. This is where I document the local goings-on, policy shifts, and community updates that matter to us here in Meade County.
The Meade County Fiscal Court convened on April 14, 2026, for a regular session that highlighted the county's dedication to balancing infrastructure development with high-quality public service. From improving permit efficiency to finalizing preparations for the much-anticipated Otter Creek property transfer, the meeting offered a clear look at a county moving forward.
The session opened with an open and candid public forum regarding the county’s building permit process. Local contractors and residents shared their frustrations with current permitting timelines and the application of late fees. Recognizing that a growing community requires a seamless development process, the Judge-Executive announced that a dedicated work session would be held in mid-May. This meeting will bring together local builders, the Planning & Zoning board, and county magistrates to streamline operations and ensure a "fair and reasonable" process for everyone involved.
Excitement is building for the Otter Creek Outdoor Recreation Area. With the official deed transfer expected to conclude by the end of the month, the Fiscal Court is putting the final pieces in place to ensure the park is ready for public enjoyment.
During the meeting, the court adopted Ordinance 2026.01, which establishes a parking management program. The court also formalized a fair and transparent fee structure for the park, offering daily passes at $5, five-day passes at $20, and annual passes for just $75 per vehicle. These measures, along with clear rules for park conduct and special events, will ensure that Otter Creek remains a safe, family-friendly environment for all visitors.
