Electric cables are an important part of today’s world where they are used in all kinds of circuits that run in the global phenomenon of the world; from the plug that is charging your device while you are reading this or the place that is giving electricity to your whole town, electric cables are easily an essential part of the environment – cat5e is one of them. Although electric cables existed in the past as well, they have come a long way and evolved so much over the years and it’s all because of innovations that come across oh so often.
To understand the whole phenomenon of electric cables and how it leads to the new generations of cat5e cable, we need to look back at the history of electric cables. We believe the earliest use of electric cables was back in 1844 where these were used in Telegraph Lines between the two cities of United States of America: the Washington, D.C. to Baltimore, Maryland. These strung there on poles as we can easily imagine how the old times looked with the wires in the streets and how we can compare them with the current use of the cables where they are all becoming underground now.
Although the cables have evolved, the evolution didn’t just start now; it has been to the case of every year, every decade, and even the century working on cables to pass the more and much stronger amount of voltage and data through from just a tiny cable. Not only the mass of the cable is important, but also its type. Those early cables were made up of iron, hence they were difficult to produce. And over the course of time, they came up with better ideas like lubricating the iron surface of the wires by using copper sulfate hence applying a thin copper coating and then they realized that copper can do more than that.
But before the “discovering” of copper’s use in the cables, they tried many things like: back in 1880, the first insulated cables came into the game which was insulated with a natural latex material called get a purchase: then in 1890, the mass impregnation of paper insulation was used: and by 1913 the International Copper Standard (IAC) was established by the International Electron-technical Commission.
Copper’s are superior conductors and that is what the great minds behind the electric cables realized, hence they finally replaced those early iron conductors with copper conductors. Although it might seem like the evolution stopped with the IEC establishing International Copper Standard but it didn’t. The electric cables kept on evolving from their onward by the 1930s, they first tried making the PVC installations, in the time when World War II was taking place and by the end of the war, there were many kinds of polyethylene and rubbers being available. Then came the era of XLPE insulators in the 1970s where we saw the replacing of paper insulated cables to medium voltage applications and by the 1980s the now famous optical fibers were introduced for the data transmission.
The evolution of cables played a whole part of how we see the world now. It changed the landscaped of perceiving things and actually made them a reality. Hence, we say, during all of 1900s and the 21stcentury, the production of the electrical cables paved a way for the massive success of cat5e riser cable which is being used today and we can just sit now and try to imagine see where this world of electric cables takes us in the future; and not only in the world of cables but in the world of development and infrastructure as well!
