rsula Sofa Reyes Pieyro (born 25 September 1995) is a Mexican singer and songwriter. She rose to fame in 2018 with her song "1,2,3", which featured Jason Derulo and De La Ghetto. In 2019, she released the song "R.I.P." with Brazilian singer Anitta and British singer Rita Ora. For "R.I.P.", Reyes won a Latin American Music Award and a LOS40 Music Award.[citation needed]

Reyes was born in the northern Mexican city of Monterrey, Nuevo Len, and started singing and playing piano when she was ten.[1] She began uploading videos of herself covering songs on YouTube two years later. Her videos managed to capture the interest of many, including Latin American singer Prince Royce, who went on to sign Reyes with his then newly created music label D'Len Records at the age of 12. As the first ever singer to be signed to the label which Royce created in partnership with Warner Music Latina in order to "support other young talent in their development", Reyes launched her debut single "Now Forever", featuring American rapper Khleo Thomas in 2013.[2]

Reyes collaborated with Puerto Rican singer Wisin and German producer Toby Gad to co-write the single "Muvelo", which was released in August 2014.[3] Her subsequent single "Conmigo (Rest of Your Life)" was launched the following year. The music video for the latter song sees American singer/actor Kendall Schmidt of Big Time Rush and Heffron Drive making an appearance as Reyes' love interest on a secluded beach.[4] In early 2016, Sofia released her third single "Solo Yo", a heartfelt ballad and her first singing collaboration with mentor Prince Royce. Both are featured in the official music video.[5] She released a song called "1, 2, 3" along with Jason Derulo and De la Ghetto. In March 2019, Sofia released the song "R.I.P.", featuring Rita Ora and Anitta. In May 2019, Spanish singer Beret released a duet version of his song "Lo siento" (English: I'm sorry) featuring Reyes.[6][7]

On 6 March 2020, Reyes collaborated with American singer-songwriter Lauv, for the song "El Tejano" off Lauv's debut album, How I'm Feeling. On 19 May, the music video was released for the song, featuring Reyes singing on stage at a Mexican restaurant.[citation needed] On 26 April 2020, she collaborated with Michael Bubl and the Barenaked Ladies on "Gotta Be Patient" by Stay Homas featuring Judit Nedderman, for the Canadian benefit concert Stronger Together, Tous Ensemble in support of Food Banks Canada, healthcare and front-line workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, and in memory of the 2020 Nova Scotia attacks.[8] On 12 May 2023, Reyes released the single "How You Samba" alongside Kris Kross Amsterdam and British rapper Tinie Tempah.[9]

It was released as a single on February 16, 2018.[1] The song was written by Reyes, Derulo, Ghetto, Nicole Zignago, Ricardo Montaner, Jon Leone and Charlie Guerrero.[2]

The music video for the song, directed by Mike Ho, was shot in Los Angeles. It premiered via Reyes' YouTube channel on February 16, 2018 and received a nomination for a Lo Nuestro Award for Video of the Year.[2][3]

Born in Monterrey, Nuevo Len, Reyes started her musical career by singing and playing piano at around the age of ten. Two years later she began writing songs with her father and uploading covers to YouTube, which captured the attention of singer/producer Prince Royce who signed her to his label, D'Leon Records.

"Whenever I fly, I get vulnerable. I start to reflect, miss people, or feel inspired," Reyes told Rolling Stone. "The song is about remembering the person you used to be with and how you miss him and want to be back with him."

Sofia Reyes, Rita Ora and Anitta coming together for the new song "R.I.P." is a statement if just for the amount of star power it harnesses, but there's a larger message in having this international trio come together on a track.

Adding an additional element of accessibility comes in the song's theme. Most people around the world know that the abbreviation "R.I.P." deals with something ending, relates to death or points to something dark, making the theme more or less universally understood and also altogether intriguing. Choreographed moments where we see Reyes crossing herself during the "R.I.P. to the bullsh-t" line gives it yet another easy access point for many people aware of the Catholic prayer gesture.

While the song is already forward-thinking enough, a selfish part of us wants to add a rapper to the track for a future remix to make it all the more international. We could see fellow rising MCs like Jamaica's Shenseea, the UK's Stefflon Don or Houston-representing Meghan Thee Stallion all able to rise to the occasion.

"R.I.P." is the second official single released off Reyes' forthcoming sophomore album that is lining up to include an international cast of stars given "R.I.P." and the LP's lead single "1, 2, 3" that combined the singer-songwriter with pop hunk Jason Derulo and reggaeton rapper De La Ghetto.

So, I can't remember the name of this song, when it was released exactly, who wrote it, but I can remember that it was most likely a spanish english or just spanish song, with a person sounding similar to or maybe Sofa Reyes herself singing it. The lyrics I can remember went something like "Oh no, where you go, lallalalalla," and then some spanish lyrics. It was released probably somewhere in the 2010s, and the "Oh no" could've maybe been "Uno"

I don't know how to feel about this song. On the hand one, I feel like this was a missed opportunity for Mexican pop princess Sofia Reyes, and on the other, I feel like the song wasn't well-thought to begin with. Let me explain.

Missed opportunity: Sofia Reyes' new single "R.I.P" features British singer Rita Ora and Brazilian singer Anitta. First, WOW at Sofia getting these two artists to collaborate with her. Not VERY surprised about Anitta because she really wants to break into the Latin market and she will do whatever it takes, but Rita Ora? WTF. What is she doing in this song? So, I say missed opportunity because Sofia had these two big artists and she didn't "use" them properly. I honestly can't hear Rita's voice at all and that's most likely because she only sings two words together and stops, then sings only two words again and stops, and it's almost the same situation with Anitta; she sings barely nothing. The only thing from her that I got excited for was her Portuguese moment. Either "use" your collaborators the right way or don't have them at all in your song.

Song not well-thought to begin with: Sofia clearly liked her success with "1, 2, 3" last year and she wants to repeat that success with "R.I.P" this year. But she has made a mistake. Where's my Spanish in the chorus? The "R.I.P" chorus is purely in English and that's a huge mistake. The chorus is the most memorable part of the song and when I'm singing to it and it's only English I immediately go to thinking "ok, this isn't for the Latin market". And the Latin market is Sofia's main target. Latin people want to sing Spanish in the chorus of their club bops, otherwise they won't truly emotionally connect with the songs. And just singing Spanish in the verses doesn't do it for Sofia in "R.I.P".

Latin pop crossover star Sofa Reyes returns to the airwaves with the single "1, 2, 3," featuring Jason Derulo and De La Ghetto. The song was cowritten by Nicole Zignago, a Peruvian student currently studying professional music at Berklee.

A little over a year after her chart-topping debut album, Louder!, was released, Latin pop crossover star Sofa Reyes returns to the airwaves with the much anticipated single "1, 2, 3," featuring Jason Derulo and De La Ghetto. The song was cowritten by Nicole Zignago, a Peruvian student currently studying professional music at Berklee, and gives her a foothold in an exciting, genre-busting direction emerging in the pop world. "Writing '1, 2, 3' was one amazing experience," Zignago says of the cowrite. "Everybody in the room was close friends and we were just having fun. We wrote the song in one day, then got together the next day to record the demo and that was it! Jason [Derulo] then heard the song and fell in love and agreed to be a part of it with De La Ghetto, which brought the song to a whole other dimension."

A mix of Spanish and English lyrics, a hallmark of Reyes's energetic style, "1, 2, 3" also fuses Latin, pop, and urban song styles, with guest verses (much of which is in Spanish) by Derulo and a percussive rap bridge by De La Ghetto.
