Arabiyum Ottakavum P. Madhavan Nayarum in Oru Marubhoomikkadha (transl. The Arab, the camel, and P. Madhavan Nair in a desert tale), or simply Oru Marubhoomikkadha, is a 2011 Indian Malayalam-language romantic comedy film directed by Priyadarshan and written by Abilash Nair.[1] The film stars Mohanlal, Mukesh, Bhavana, Lakshmi Rai and Shakti Kapoor. The film was a commercial success at the box office. Oru Marubhoomikkadha was the 200th film of Mukesh. This film was inspired from the Hollywood movies Nothing to Lose (1997), Excess Baggage (1997) and Serendipity (2001). [2]

The plot of the film revolves around Puthanpurackal Madhavan Nair (Mohanlal), a middle-aged accountant who works in the Middle East to support his family in India. He falls in love with Meenakshi (Lakshmi Rai), a young woman who works as a secretary for his boss Hossinni (Shakti Kapoor). However, he is heartbroken when he finds out that Meenakshi is engaged to Hossinni. He decides to commit suicide, but is stopped by his childhood friend Abdu Kupleri (Mukesh), who disguises himself as a thief and kidnaps him. The duo embark on a series of adventures across the desert, where they encounter a camel, an Arab prince, a band of robbers, and a group of terrorists. Along the way, Madhavan realizes that Meenakshi still loves him and that Hossinni had lied to him. He also learns that Abdu had planned the kidnapping to save his life and to reunite him with Meenakshi.

The film was praised for its comedy, music, cinematography, and performances. The film's soundtrack was composed by M. G. Sreekumar and featured eight songs, sung by M. G. Sreekumar, K. S. Chithra, Madhu Balakrishnan, Rimi Tomy, Sudeep Kumar, Shweta Mohan, and Ujjayini.[3] The songs were written by Bichu Thirumala, Rajeev Alunkal, and Santhosh Varma. The song "Chembaka Vallikalil" was a chartbuster and won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Singer for M. G. Sreekumar.[4]

The film was released on 16 December 2011 and grossed over â25 crore at the box office.[5] It was one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films of 2011 and ran for over 100 days in theatres.[6] The film won several awards and nominations, including the Kerala State Film Award for Best Popular Film.[7]
