To install LogPlot 7, you need to download the installation file from the RockWare website. You can choose either the 32-bit or the 64-bit version, depending on your system. After downloading, run the installer file and follow the recommended settings. When the installation is complete, the licensing program will start automatically. You will also need to copy the installation number that the program generates, and submit it to the RockWare registration form. You will receive an unlocking code within one business day, which you can enter in the unlock window of the program. This will transform the software from trial mode to full use mode.
Creating a Simple Lithology Log
One of the most common types of logs that you can create with LogPlot 7 is a lithology log, which shows the rock types and properties of a borehole or well. To create a simple lithology log, you need to follow these steps:
Open a sample log design file. LogPlot 7 comes with several predefined log designs that you can use or modify for your own purposes. To open a sample log design file, go to File > Open > Design and choose one of the files in the Samples folder. For this tutorial, we will use the file LP7_Lithology.ldf.
Open a sample data file. LogPlot 7 also comes with several sample data files that contain information about boreholes or wells, such as depth, lithology, description, etc. To open a sample data file, go to File > Open > Data and choose one of the files in the Samples folder. For this tutorial, we will use the file LP7_Lithology.dat.
Compile the log. To compile the log, go to File > Compile or click on the Compile button on the toolbar. This will generate a graphic log based on the log design and data file that you have opened. You can view the compiled log in the LogView window, which shows a preview of how the log will look when printed or exported.
Export the log. To export the log to an image file, go to File > Export > Image or click on the Export Image button on the toolbar. This will open a dialog box where you can choose the image format, resolution, size, and filename for your exported log. For this tutorial, we will export the log as a PNG file with a resolution of 300 dpi and a width of 8 inches.
Congratulations! You have just created your first lithology log with LogPlot 7. You can find more details and examples of how to create different types of logs in the LogPlot tutorial and manual.
