Please Welcome the new CEO of Venture For America!
We’re thrilled to announce that after an exhaustive nationwide search, Eric Somerville
will join Venture For America on Tuesday, August 3 as our new CEO!
Joining us from Baltimore, Eric (he/him) comes to VFA from The Y in Central Maryland where, most recently, he served as Vice President of Corporate and Civic Engagement focusing on social responsibility, volunteer efforts, and corporate relationships across central Maryland. At The Y, he led initiatives that doubled their volunteer base and tripled the number of corporate and civic partners engaged in their work.
With a background in partnering with municipal agencies, academic institutions, neighborhood associations, local nonprofits, the private sector, and the philanthropic community, he brings with him a steadfast desire to positively impact communities and individuals at the ground-level. His work at VFA will be a continuation of that mission as he charts the organization’s trajectory for the next decade and beyond.
Eric is an explorer, traveler (he has visited 16 countries and counting), and is deeply passionate about living a life enriched with mindfulness, wellness, and servant leadership. He received an undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill and a master’s degree in transformational leadership and social change from Maryland University of Integrative Health. He’s served on the board of or volunteered for local nonprofits, including the Samaritan Community and Chesapeake Bay Trust.
