¡Bienvenidos a la clase del señor García!

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Welcome ODS students and parents to Sr. García's website!

Spanish II and III are high school credit-bearing courses and require a workload equivalent to a Spanish II and III class given at the high school level. In these courses, students will learn content through literacy in a variety of contexts that reinforce the four communicative areas of listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Students will continue to develop communicative and intercultural competence by understanding oral and printed Spanish language, interacting with others in Spanish, both orally and in writing, and making oral and written Spanish language presentations in real-life contexts on meaningful topics. Students will begin to show a greater level of accuracy when using basic language structures and they will be exposed to more complex features of the Spanish language. Emphasis will continue to be placed on the use of the Spanish language in the classroom as exclusively as possible, as well as on the use of authentic materials to help students learn the Spanish language and gain intercultural competence with an awareness, acceptance, appreciation, and understanding of the relationship among cultural products, practices, and perspectives of Spanish-speaking countries. The communicative competence is divided into three modes:

· The Interpersonal mode, in which students learn to give and follow basic instructions, ask and answer questions about oneself, others, and the immediate environment, participate in oral and written exchanges that reflect present, past, and future time frames.

· The Interpretative mode, in addition to understanding and responding appropriately to simple instructions, students understand basic spoken and written Spanish presented through a variety of media, identifying some details and key words with culturally authentic materials (i.e. announcements, messages, and advertisements) in familiar contexts.

· The Presentational mode, in which students present information orally and in writing using structures that reflect present, past, and future time, combining learned and original language in connected sentences and paragraphs.

The Spanish II course will be divided into three major thematic units:

· La vida diaria y el hogar (Daily life and home)

· Viajemos (Travel, excursions, and gifts)

· En el mercado (Clothing, Shopping, and Cultural Occasions)

The Spanish III course will also be divided into three major thematic units:

· ¿Quiénes somos? (Getting To Know Each Other)

· Nuestra comunidad y nuestro medio ambiente (Our community and our environment)

· El mundo contemporáneo (The contemporary world)
