There are 8 possible SOL essay prompts that ask you to analyze and reflect on a quote from a historical figure. When you respond to a quote, it is helpful to know about the person who said it. By studying the famous person, you can understand why they made the quote, how the quote applied to their life's work, and how the quote can be applied to your life.

Complete a graphic organizer for two quotes.
Write 2 complete sentences for each section of the notes page.
Historical context surrounding the quote (what was going on in the world).
The legacy of the person who made the quote (why they were important).
The application of the quote (how the person applied the quote to their life).
Your connection to the quote (how do you apply the message to your life).
One sentence in each section must be written in the structure indicated with the star.

Notes Grades:
Notes pages are worth 10 points each
Each sentence is worth 0.5 points.
Each sentence that uses the specified sentence formula is worth an additional 0.5 points

Essay Grades:
The essay is worth 30 points.
You and Mr. Henn will grade the essay together.
Demonstrate that you have improved from your Mock SOL essay to earn 30 points.
Due Dates
Due dates indicate the day the assignment will be graded. Do not wait to start something because it is due tomorrow. Late work will not be accepted from students who choose not to work in class.

* Mr. Henn reserves the right to adjust the requirements based on schedule changes. Students who are pulled out for tutoring will be excused from some requirements. If you are absent, you still have to meet the requirements.
