Loom is a screen recording extension for Google Chrome. This allows you to record instructions as you show students how to access a tool or navigate a website. You can get a link that takes students directly to the video, or you can embed the video directly into Schoology!
WeVideo is an incredible web-based video editing tool. Take clips that you have recorded from your phone camera or even your computer's webcam and edit them together with music, credits, transitions and so much more! Get creative with some app smashing! Take the Schoology Course for WeVideo here! (If link doesn't work, you need to join the course with code N9TP-NS35-J5GG5 .)
Schoology is our Learning Management System. This tool allows you to create lessons, collect work, store resources, and communicate with students. For grades 3-5 this is where all of your virtual teaching will be housed. You can create and assign assessments, classwork, discussion boards and much more here. Be sure to look for ways to embed outside resources in Schoology, as well, so students do not need to navigate tabs as often!
Padlet is a virtual bulletin board where students can post virtual "sticky notes" and reply to the notes of other students. They can add text, files and images to their sticky notes. This is a great tool for having students share their thoughts, work, or even ask questions!
Google Meet is the web conferencing tool we will be using to administer our synchronous teaching. Check out this STUDENT OVERVIEW TEMPLATE for teaching expectations for virtual meetings to your students!
GimKit is a great tool for getting formative feedback and for students to practice their learning. It is set up in a trivia game format where students compete against each other to answer questions you have created and earn money. They can use the money they earn to block opponents or purchase upgrades to boost their score. Unlike Kahoot!, the questions will repeat until the time limit is up, so students have an opportunity to revisit questions they previously answered incorrectly!
Flippity leverages the power of Google Sheets to create amazing online activities. Create unique bingo cards for your whole class or set up a Jeopardy style game in no time! They provide you with the templates and all you have to do is fill in the info!
PearDeck is an add on for Google Slides that takes a regular presentation and makes it interactive for your students! Students can give anonymous thumbs up or down about their understanding, type responses, and more! There is even a self paced mode for asynchronous lessons. Be sure to check this one out!
Kahoot is a virtual trivia game where students compete against each other answering questions. You can have students complete this with you synchronously or you can assign it asynchronously for them to complete as independent work.
Jamboard is a Google tool that acts as a virtual whiteboard. Where this tool gets really interesting is when you pair it with an iPad or other tablet. You could even do it with your smartphone. With Jamboard loaded on your computer and the same Jamboard loaded on your tablet or phone, you can write on your tablet and it will be displayed on your computer. This means if you are sharing your screen with your students, they will see your screen as if you were writing on it! Access Jamboard from the "More" menu in Google Drive (click the plus sign and look towards the bottom).
