STUDENT INJURIES
Even with the greatest precautions and the closest supervision, accidents can and do happen at school. They are a fact of life and a part of the growing-up process our children go through. Parents need to be aware of this and prepared for possible medical expenses should their child be injured at school. Vallivue School District does not provide medical insurance that automatically covers medical expenses when students are injured at school. This is the responsibility of the parents or legal guardians.
The district carries only legal liability insurance. Insurance covering medical expenses arising from an injury may be purchased for students who participate in district-sponsored athletic teams.
Vallivue School District nurses provide service to multiple schools. The district may designate an employee other than the school nurse to care for your child.
IMMUNIZATIONS
Idaho Statute requires the parent or guardian to provide the school with an immunization record regarding the child’s immunity to certain childhood diseases. This applies to children entering or transferring into Idaho public schools in preschool through 12th grade.
Idaho Statute permits a parent or guardian to exempt their child from school immunization requirements based on medical, religious, or other grounds (Section 39-4801 & Section 39-4802).*
Proof of meeting the immunization documentation requirement requires submitting one of the following:
An official medical record noting the administration of the vaccines, or
Completion of an Idaho Exemption Form (Spanish), available online or at the school office, or a signed statement stating the objections.
Please upload your child’s updated immunization record to the Infinite Campus parent portal or provide completed records to the school. Immunization records are not sent to the school by medical providers.
MEDICATIONS
Students requiring prescription or over-the-counter medication at school must have:
A completed medication permit form signed by a healthcare provider and by the parent or legal guardian. Medication permits are available at the school or online.
Properly labeled medication in its original container.
- Medication must be brought to the school by an adult; DO NOT send medication on the bus.
- A student may carry emergency medication if noted by the physician on the permit.
Non-FDA-approved medications, including home remedies, plants, herbs, vitamins, essential oils, and other nonconventional forms of medicine, will not be administered at school.
VALLIVUE SCHOOL DISTRICT HEALTH GUIDELINES
For the safety of students and staff
To help prevent the spread of illness and ensure well-being, a student will not be allowed to attend school when any one of the following is present:
Uncontrolled or non-contained bodily fluids such as blood, vomit, diarrhea, or nasal secretions;
Fever of 100.4° F or greater, oral or equivalent;
An undiagnosed skin rash;
Signs or symptoms of illness are present, such as, but not limited to, uncontrolled cough, pinkeye, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills, and/or fatigue.
Parents may opt for a medical evaluation by a primary care provider for diagnosis and treatment, and to help expedite the student's return to school.
A physician's release may be requested to confirm the student's return-to-school date.
Without a physician's release to return to school, students with signs or symptoms of illness should remain at home for at least 24 hours after being fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medications and symptoms are improved. In general, “symptoms are improved” means that a person no longer feels ill, they can keep up and do their daily routine just as they did before they were ill, and any remaining symptoms, such as a cough or runny nose, are very mild, intermittent, or infrequent and do not interfere with school.
Certain infectious diseases require additional isolation before returning to school. Guidance is available from the CDC Directory.
GENERAL INFORMATION
An attempt will be made to notify a parent/guardian if a child is seriously ill or injured; please keep phone numbers up to date online.
Minor first-aid is available; school personnel are not licensed to diagnose illness or injury.
For emergency care, 911 will be called when deemed necessary.
Special Medical Needs
Parents/guardians are responsible for notifying the school of pertinent health information by:
