COMMUNICATION TO VALLEY-EDINBURG PATRONS:
The school year, albeit different, is off to a wonderful start. With the new protocols, guidelines, and routines, some changes to how we have done things in the past are inevitable. As the Valley-Edinburg School community navigates these strange times, we are learning and continuing to make changes for the health and safety of all our students, parents, and school staff.
One of those changes will be how we conduct the first round of Parent/Teacher conferences. In our staff meetings, this week, it was decided that the Pre-K through 3 (Hoople building) will have PT conferences on the originally scheduled date of Thursday, September 24. The 4-8 grades (Crystal building) and 9-12 grades (Edinburg building) will hold their PT conferences on Tuesday, October 27th. This will allow those students and staff more time to develop a student-led conference and accrue more data. Conference times, on both dates, will stay the same from 4:00 – 8:00. As much as we have seen that holding conferences in one location has increased attendance, with COVID, health and social distancing, conferences will be conducted in each individual building.
Building administrators will be sending parents/guardians information as to the format, virtual or face-to-face, in the near future.
In addition to these changes, we have also decided to change our Wednesday, October 14, early out dismissal to a FULL DAY dismissal from school. Students will not be coming to school this day. Staff, however, will be completing professional development in the three buildings.
Thank you for all your help and patience during the first few weeks of school as this is a learning experience for all of us.
Breakfast & Lunch Announcement: USDA has extended its Lunch program that we used in March-May to provide meals to anyone who wanted/needed them. This program provides Breakfast and Lunch FREE of charge to all students in our school district. This announcement is new and more details and guidance on how we proceed will be released in the coming weeks.
For now what you need to know is that your student will be served Breakfast & Lunch each day they come to school free of charge. Please do not send anymore lunch money to school with your student. Students with lunch money in their accounts will remain the same until further guidance is issued as to how long this program will last. If you have previously qualified for Free or Reduced meals or believe you would qualify please still fill out a free and reduced application and return it to the school. Our school districts Federal Funding will still be determined based on our Free and Reduced numbers so it is very important we still receive your applications.
