In 1987, Valencia County’s citizens concerned with low literacy founded the Valencia County Literacy Council (VCLC), a non-profit organization. VCLC supports adults with low literacy levels to achieve personal literacy goals and their young children to achieve pre-literacy skills. We are now in our 37th year of providing literacy services and hope to Valencia County residents. Our national body is ProLiteracy. VCLC has been fully accredited three times (4-year accreditation).

Valencia County Literacy Council is looking for an AmeriCorps VISTA Community Outreach Specialist

The community Outreach Specialist will contribute to the goals of the project by performing activities such as 1.Community outreach 2.Recruiting and matching volunteer tutors with students 3.Planning a media awareness literacy campaign 4.Analyzing student testing, assessments and evaluations of tutors, and students performance 5.Facilitate students referrals and access to needed services 6. Participate in meetings with partners and agencies working on reducing poverty 7.Help organize VCLC’s annual and other fundraising event 8.Assist with the development of quarterly newsletters 9.Support with grant-writing activities.
