Westlake, named after its location directly West of Lake Union, is a small, residential neighborhood. Commonly confused with the Downtown area of Westlake Avenue, the area is less bustling than what most people expect.
Upon our visit, we ourselves were surprised to find most of the neighborhood consisted of newly built apartment complexes and corporate company buildings. Restaurants and shops were few and far between, depriving it of the coziness found in most small parts of the city. It also lacked the busyness of pedestrians, as most residents were in cars along the main strip of road. The combination of both of these details created a unique feeling that is unlike any other Seattle neighborhood.

Upon further demographics data, 93.57% of Westlake households are without children and 94.42% work white collar jobs. With all of these statistics in mind, it gives you the idea of the lifestyles and priorities of the average Westlake citizen. We have decided to assess how this relates to and affects four specific topics surrounding public health in Westlake: housing, transportation, technology, and public parks.
Westlake and all that makes it the vibrant community it is, is shaped by the individual topics that we all assessed. The major surrounding tech hub, the diverse and developing housing alternatives, the accessible modes of transportation apart from highways and roads, and the small yet sustainable green spaces that Westlake has to offer supports the immediate growth and improvement that the neighborhood of Westlake is working towards. While it's true that the amenities of Westlake are not yet at the measure of current demand, the potential for development is THERE, and we're seeing this with recent and upcoming projects mentioned. The smallest land-area neighborhood of Seattle is making its mark, and we're excited to see where the voice of its community takes it.
