Q: What are your physics/science interests?
I’m interested in most of theoretical physics, and especially many-body physics/physics of nonlinear dynamics. I’ve previously worked on a project studying the dynamics of Kerr nonlinear oscillators in open systems and a project studying hadron structure in the coviariant parton model.
Q: What are your other interests?
I’m currently juggling 3 books that I’m reading simultaneously: Italo Calvino’s “Invisible Cities,” Knut Hamsun’s “Mysteries,” and Mikhail Bulgakov’s “The Master and Margarita.” I’m hoping to finish at least two of them by the end of the summer. Apart from reading I enjoy listening to music, watching movies, writing stories and screenplays, running, hiking, and hanging out with my friends.
Q: What would you like to do after college?
After completing my undergraduate, I’d like to go to graduate school and eventually get a PhD in some field of theoretical physics (I’m still working out the specifics). It’s of course too early to tell further, but I’m currently hoping I’ll find myself in academia!
Q: Tell us one strange but interesting fact about yourself?
I am the reigning champion of having worse eyesight than anyone I’ve ever met.
Q: What first sparked your interest in Physics?
I took physics for the first time in my life as a junior in high school and honestly didn’t care for the subject very much before. But seeing elegant mathematical explanations to real world phenomena got me interested. Soon after, I participated in a summer program about quantum computing, completely hooking me onto the unintuitive world of quantum mechanics. Since then, I haven’t looked back.
Q: If you could have any pet, what would it be?
I feel like I’d get along pretty well with a raccoon.
Q: If you had a free month and unlimited funds, how would you spend your time?
I’ve never been anywhere in Europe before, so I’d like to visit a small town—maybe in Switzerland or Italy—and spend my time getting to know the local culture and writing a novel set in the area.
Q: If you could get a grant to study anything, what would it be?
I honestly think I’d get bored if I had to research things other than physics, so I’d likely continue throwing myself further at whatever project I was working on before. For better or worse, there’s always a lot of research to do.
