Q: What are your physics/science interests?
I’m interested in experimental physics, and particularly condensed matter physics, materials science, and quantum materials.
Q: What are your other interests?
I enjoy playing classical piano and clarinet, I like to bake, and I sometimes play chess online. I also like to hike and watch sports, and at Carleton I do Bollywood dance with the South Asian cultural club.
Q: What would you like to do after college?
Following undergrad, I would like to earn a Ph.D. in physics so that I can pursue a career doing research, whether it be as a professor, at a national lab, or perhaps in industry.
Q: Tell us one strange but interesting fact about yourself?
I love cheesecake. Once I was home alone for the weekend so I made a cheesecake on Friday night and ate it all before my family came back on Sunday so that I wouldn’t have to share. Okay fine, I’ve actually done this twice :)
Q: What first sparked your interest in Physics?
I was already interested in physics going into college, but I knew for sure that this is for me after the special relativity unit in my intro physics course. It blew my mind. Specifically, I was intrigued by how we could start with such simple starting assumptions and derive all these fascinating, counterintuitive results that are experimentally verifiable.
Q: If you could have any pet, what would it be?
I’d be very happy to have either a cat or dog.
Q: If you had a free month and unlimited funds, how would you spend your time?
Eating. My favorite part of traveling is trying the different cuisines, so I would do some sort of world tour centered around food. Specifically I would want to go through South America and South and East Asia.
Q: If you could get a grant to study anything, what would it be?
I would be interested in studying superconductors. They’re just weird and cool. Who knows, maybe I could be the next person to falsely claim to find a room temperature superconductor ;)
