Q: What are your physics/science interests?

I am fascinated by how really small things work. I’ve worked on a neutron beta decay experiment which I would love to continue pursuing. I also have a lot of interest in dark matter search, the research I’m doing right now. Whichever path I choose, I know it will be related to nuclear physics.

Q: What are your other interests?

I enjoy sewing and particularly like making costumes. I’ve made some fairly elaborate costumes, including a 4-layer Rapunzel dress. Traveling is also a major force in my life. I’ve slept under the stars in the Sahara Dessert, rode a camel through the Sinai Peninsula, walked the perimeter of an island in Fiji and experienced the magic of the Scottish highlands, and so much more. I’m always thinking of where I’m going next. I also love to dance ballet and be active outdoors, taking long walks and kayaking.

Q: What would you like to do after college?

I plan on continuing with my education with a PhD in physics, focusing on nuclear physics.

Q: Tell us one strange but interesting fact about yourself.

I am a brown belt in Kenpo karate. I was going to receive my black belt this summer but postponed my test until next summer to research at UW. I’m very excited about finally getting to my black belt, it has been a journey.

Q: What first sparked your interest in Physics?

I have always loved math and considered focusing on math. Yet, I noticed that I am constantly building and fixing things in my spare time for fun. I am fascinated with trying to make things work and understanding the fundamental nature of why things work the way they do. I finally realized that my love is the combination of math and understanding the universe, which is why I’m pursuing physics.

Q: If you could have any pet what would it be?

Due to my love for Halloween, I have two cats, an orange cat named Pumpkin and a black cat named Salem, and they are the perfect companions.

Q: If you had a free month and unlimited funds, how would you spend your time?

I would rent a yacht and start in Finland, staying at the glass igloos to view the Aurora Borealis. I would then cruise through the Baltic Sea and stop at different ports along the way and just see how far I get within a month.

Q: If you could get a grant to study anything what would it be?

I would definitely study some topic within the field of nuclear physics.
