Q: What are your physics/science interests?
I have a strong interest in experimental AMO physics. My research interests are in the regimes of laser cooling and trapping, quantum simulations, or precision measurements using ultracold atoms, molecules, or ions. I am also intrigued on molecular quantum mechanics and its applications for fundamental physics or quantum information
Q: What are your other interests?
I play several sports (e.g., basketball, badminton, chess) and find myself interested in exterior and interior designing. Other than that, I occasionally re-watch videos, (e.g., Gordon Ramsay videos), go to a zoo, and do road trips to scenic places.
Q: What would you like to do after college?
I have a strong desire to pursue a Ph.D. in experimental atomic physics. Ideally, I would like to be a scientist at a research laboratory working in experimental AMO physics or other companies that primarily focuses on quantum technologies or design and development of optical devices such as lasers.
Q: Tell us one strange but interesting fact about yourself.
Several of my friends told me that my current hairstyle apparently gives me an additional two inches of height. I am listed as 5’2” (as far as I know), but my friends think I’m around 5’4” -5’5”. So yes, the power of my hairstyle allows me to manipulate people’s perception of my height in my favor (so far).
Q: What first sparked your interest in Physics?
My high school chemistry teacher taught introductory quantum chemistry, and I was somewhat amazed by the phenomenon of the photoelectric effect and the main idea of spectroscopy. The structure of the atom and its dynamics with light (i.e., light-matter interaction) was something that I find intellectually stimulating and aesthetically pleasing. This led the motivation for me to study physics.
Q: If you could have any pet, what would it be?
Definitely a Maine Coon.
Q: If you had a free month and unlimited funds, how would you spend your time?
Based on my current hobbies and interests, I would like to spend my time learning how to play golf. I have been playing golf through video games for a long time. Learning the mechanics and going through the day-to-day activity of the sport is something I have been looking forward to. Other than that, I’d buy new clothes and expand my wardrobe to the next level and rent an apartment and live in New York City.
Q: If you could get a grant to study anything what would it be?
Aside from controlling, studying, and playing with atoms and molecules, I would study laser science or computer vision.
