Q: What are your physics/science interests?
I find many things in physics very interesting, but in particular I find atom and ion trapping, and along with that quantum information, very interesting. In the near future, there will be a revolution of quantum information related technologies which makes this a very compelling area of research. Besides this, I think science and math education is very important. I hope that the enthusiasm that I have for math and science can one day be more widely shared with the general society.
Q: What are your other interests?
Besides physics, another interest of mine is playing music. I mainly enjoy playing jazz trumpet, but recently I have been learning piano as well. I also enjoy playing spikeball, weightlifting, and playing video games.
Q: What would you like to do after college?
I will get a physics PhD after college. I think doing research in quantum information in a university or private company would be great. I also want to become a professor because I like to teach others about math and physics.
Q: Tell us one strange but interesting fact about yourself.
I can weave the toes of one of my feet between the toes of my other foot only using my feet.
Q: What first sparked your interest in Physics?
Math and science have always been my favorite subjects in school, but there were specific mentors in my life that steered me specifically into physics. In high school, I had a phenomenal AP physics teacher who made the tricky problem solving aspect of physics fun and rewarding. He was the main reason I decided to major in physics in college. In college, I had another physics professor who told me that I would make a good researcher, and this is what convinced me to pursue a physics PhD.
Q: If you could have any pet, what would it be?
I have never had a pet in my life, however I really like Shiba Inu dogs. I see many videos of these dogs, and I think they are very cute. I will definitely have one in the future.
Q: If you had a free month and unlimited funds, how would you spend your time?
I would spend my month touring around the country and playing jazz for bars and restaurants or on the street.
