Q: What are your physics/science interests?
I'm primarily attracted to quantum mechanical systems within physics. It's a relatively broad topic, with lots of nuance within the various subfield, but it's a part of the physical world which is incredibly different from the one I am used to. I am most drawn to physics when exploring the complicated and intricate ways that the principles of quantum mechanics shape the world of the small.
Q: What are your other interests?
I am heavily involved in the Society of Physics Students at my university, and that involves a lot of outreach activities where we do demonstrations and shows for school groups. I also have played water polo for the last 7 years and I enjoy playing on the club team at my school.
Q: What would you like to do after college?
I would like to go to graduate school, most likely studying physics. I would probably go into a subfield such as particle physics or solid state physics where I could most easily pursue the quantum mechanical systems that interest me.
Q: Tell us one strange but interesting fact about yourself.
I grow (non-psychedelic) mushrooms as a hobby.
Q: What first sparked your interest in Physics?
I had a terrible teacher for my physics class back in high school. It forced me to teach myself a lot of the material outside of class and I ended up learning it pretty well. That experience helped me realize how much I enjoyed physics, and it was incredibly satisfying to conquer something which was previously a complete mystery to me. It gave me the confidence to pursue physics once I got to college.
Q: If you could have any pet what would it be?
Another cat (I already have two).
Q: If you had a free month and unlimited funds, how would you spend your time?
In this order: Invest heavily in humanitarian and environmental protection efforts, fund a batman style superhero crime fighting duo comprised of myself and my girlfriend, break the world economy.
Q: If you could get a grant to study anything what would it be?
I would like to study the potential uses of mycelium as a building and packaging material.
