There are many active CS education communities in Washington state.

Puget Sound

Seattle and the surrounding Puget Sound region have a large number of people passionate about CS education. Here are many groups you can connect with:

  • Sound CS Ed is a quarterly meetup of Puget Sound CS educators, education researchers, product designers, and non-profit organizers who are passionate about bringing educating every one in Puget Sound about the power of computing.
  • The Code and Cognition Lab at the University of Washington, directed by Professor Andy Ko, meets weekly to discuss CS education research. Write Andy to engage.
  • The Puget Sound CS Teachers Association brings together CS teachers from around the region to network and organize an annual programming contest.
  • Code.org, which is a national CS for All advocacy organization, is headquartered in downtown Seattle, and often holds events.

Central Washington

The Apple STEM Network provides an excellent community of teachers and support in Central Washington.

Eastern Washington

Spokane and the broader eastern Washington region is a vibrant hub of CS learning and teaching.

  • The Eastern Washington Computer Science Consortium brings together leaders from across Eastern Washington to deliver meaningful computer science experiences for schools and students in Eastern Washington.
  • The Spokane CS Teachers Association brings together CS teachers from around the region to network and plan.

Southwest Washington

  • Many southwest Washington CS teachers engage with the Oregon CSTA, across the state border in Portland, Oregon.

Pacific Northwest communities

  • There is an annual Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges Regional Conference that brings together higher education CS educators.
  • TEALS regularly organizes events that bring together its growing community of 100+ teachers and 350+ volunteers in WA invested in CS education.
  • CS for All Washington may eventually organize a state summit. Stay tuned.
